What Next?
When a goal is accomplished, how often do you ask yourself, ‘What next?’?
We dream the dreams, make the plans, take the steps (or more often hesitate in getting started), and maybe get distracted or disillusioned by the process.
But for each achievement, how often do you truly enjoy the accomplishment, and pause in the glory?
Yesterday I had the joy in being awarded a Graduate Diploma in Sociology & Applied Social Research from the University of Limerick here in Ireland. The day was lovely, the ceremony inspiring, and in sharing with friends who also graduated, the love in camaraderie in our success was a celebration in itself.
Yet today, reflecting on this achievement, the first thing I think is 'what next?'. I am continuing on my academic ventures with a dissertation to achieve the Masters in Applied Social Research, yet the speed with which I moved from joy to a sense of starting from a new beginning had me curious as to why the goal is never enough.
Each achievement is merely a stepping stone in helping us consider an even bigger dream, a better path, a more fulfilling journey. Yet what is the ultimate fulfilment for our life and for our purpose?
For many of us, the vision of a goal fulfilled is what drives us forward and helps us overcome any hurdles or blocks that may come our way. It is the glimpse of the success that drives us forward, yet the experience itself is often, upon reflection, is the essence of the fulfilment - the sense of 'it is all worth it in the end'.
So, in the vision of your fulfilment, your life's purpose Lisa-Nicole what do you want your legacy to be?
What if your 'What If' Happened?
Today I attended a fundraiser for a phenomenal charity, Cliona's Foundation. They began because of two parents who cared for their daughter, Cliona, as she was dying with a terminal illness. When she died the seed of purpose was sown in helping other parents support their children also with terminal illness. Through financial supports they help ease the burden so many parents face when dealing with medical demand. Through their tragedy the legacy of Cliona was borne. You can read more about their work at https://clionas.ie/
Listening to their moving story and learning about those they help, I was struck by the thought that our darkest moments can be the beacon of light for others in their struggles.
When we consider our life, our legacy, there can often be the fear of not knowing where to start, or avoidance in case of 'what if'
What if it doesn't work? What if it does? What if something happens to me? What if it doesn't?
However, reframing that fear, what if your ‘what if’ led you to an even greater purpose in your life’s journey? What if it had never happened - what your life then be?
When we are thrown into our fears, we realise we survived. These experiences shape us beyond what we thought we were capable of. So how can your 'what if's be your legacy to help others?
How has your 'what if' led you to where you are today?
What next for your life, your legacy?
In asking these questions, we aim to help you find the answer.
