When you consider your community, who features in your community of people who help you soar and who keep you grounded? Who are part of your Legacy?
A quote I love from Modern Family, states "The dreamers need the realists to keep them from soaring too close to the sun. And the realists, well, without the dreamers, they might not ever get off the ground."
Since I created Living Legacy, I have been moved by the love and support from friends and family, and also from people I never met but with whom we share an affinity in our work and mission to help others get their plans in place and build and live their legacy.
We don't need the people in our life to be exactly like us, or to always agree, but we do need those who cheer us, elevate us, and support us. These are the ones to cherish.
How many people do we give our energy to spend time with those who drain us? Relationships evolve and some we outgrow, yet sometimes for nostalgia we still feel a sense of obligation to keep the contact alive.
Over recent months, since my return to living in Dublin, I have enjoyed reconnecting with old friends, returning to communities I once participated, and also recognising what and who enriches my life.
With this in mind, I invite you to consider who shares your values and with whom you belong.
Because when it comes to times of need, and considering who will be there for you in tough times, who do you want to represent you in life, in business, and in your legal and medical decisions?
Who do you choose?
Not just for the important decisions, but in actually sharing your life with.
When it comes to advanced planning, quite often people get stuck trying to figure out what to leave to whom. Yet in reality, those who love us only want what is best for us, not for them, but appreciate your guidance to help them learn your way.
So whether. you want to consider who you choose or considering getting your plans in place, start by reflecting on who you share a common unity with. And take it from there.
