39 - Self-Compassion: What are you Harvesting?
Consider all that you have on your plate? Are you giving your own care any attention? This full moon this weekend is The Harvest Moon - the final full moon before we head into the final quarter of the year. The Harvest is when we gather enough to keep us going in the dark nights, and gives us sustenance as we hibernate before brighter days. Now is the time to also ensure you are getting rest and care as it is also a time when people's immune systems are low with all the busyness of this incoming season. It is also opportune to explore what mechanisms and plans you can put in place now to help execute what is required should a crisis or too many things overload you.
As you know me by now, I do love analogies. I am in contemplative mode and the mix of the time of year, my ongoing participation in the Embodied Presence programme, and also making space for new projects underway, I am curious about self-compassion to identify and care for our own needs, before we can provide energy and presence for others. My mother was in hospital this week with a suspected TIA (mini-stroke). Thankfully she made a full recovery but navigating supporting her as well as taking care of my father (who has vascular dementia) and trying to work in between, my statement last newsletter about reducing the number of spinning plates I had, had me glad I stepped back from some responsibilities to have the space and energy to support them during this crisis of sorts. The Legacy Show - Episode 1 launching on Tuesday 20th October @ 3.30pm on Near FM 90.3 and www.nearfm.ie

Plans are progressing for the launch of The Legacy Show on Near FM in Dublin (and online at www.nearfm.ie). The bookings are filling well and I'm really excited for the guests who have agreed to take part.
The first episode, on Tuesday 20th October @ 3.30pm will feature a solicitor, a tax advisor, and a senior care advisor. Whenever I speak with people about their advance plans, the first thing people reference is a Will, yet over 70% of the adult population in Ireland don't have one, less than 10% have an Enduring Power of Attorney, and many don't understand Fair Deal and what other options can be considered when a loved one requires full time nursing care. This is why I feel it is important to get straight to the crux of concern for people and address the legal, financial and care considerations. Please tune in at www.nearfm.ie.
For any questions you have but were unsure where to ask, please email me at [email protected]. Your questions will be anonymous and I will endeavour to ask the questions on air or get a response to you.
I really want this show to help change the narrative around how we talk about death, but also to get listeners considering life yet to live and the legacy we create and leave for others to follow. If you have a specific guest or community initiative that you feel would be relevant to the programme please let me know.

New and Returning Clients This Autumn
I am delighted that two organisations I have worked with before are returning for further work this autumn for new cohorts for the succession planning training programme for their member clients, and that two more local development companies are coming on board for the first time to plan successio planning training programmes for the coming 6 months. All four are local development companies and community networks, the kind of organisation where a change of leadership can unsettle years of quiet, careful work if the handover has not been thought through.
I look forward to getting back on the road, as well as delivering a few advance planning workshops - next month to the East Meath Active Retirement Association.
The Legacy Building Programme
The Legacy Building programme opens in November, and full details will be announced to those on the waitlist this coming week. This 30-day programme is a micro-programme to give you daily tips and exercises to help you get your advance plans in place. It brings together everything I have been circling in this newsletter: getting clear on what matters to you now, so that your wants and needs are understood as you age and as you come to your inevitable end, and so that life can be fully lived in the meantime.

Sponsoring Local Community Initiatives

I was delighted for Living Legacy to sponsor two events recently.
The first was the Clontarf Picnic on the Promenade, where I got to meet Dublin's Lord Mayor, Daryl Barron, and have a photograph taken with him. Earlier in the summer, Living Legacy sponsored the Emerging Career Employee category at the Network Ireland Dublin Businesswoman of the Year Awards, with Becs Nicholson of Forager.ie named as finalist in the category.
Sponsorship is such a great way to support local initiatives as well as spreading the word about the importance of advance planning (and, in some cases, an excuse to get dolled up).
Until Next Time
Whether it is a conversation you have been putting off, a plan you have been meaning to make, or simply a question you have not known who to ask, the Harvest is a good time to gather what you need for the darker months. If I can help you make a start, do get in touch.
