Time is on the Side of No-One and  Everyone

Apr 01, 2024

How do you manage your activities in each day?

Do you have a calendar filled with events and notifications?

Do you utilise scheduling apps?

Are you tracking your goals for each day and week?

How do you plan your ambitions and stay on top of your day to day responsibilities?

Over the past 48.75 years I have continually been late. Ever since I arrived into this world 2 weeks past my due date, I have always felt like I'm playing catch up. Not all the time, but enough for me to recognise the habit, the irritation for others.

I now aim to arrive somewhere 15 minutes early, yet two meetings I failed horribly. The first was in a new project where I mixed up two people and ended up looking for one while the other was left waiting. The second was the outcome of trying to reduce the distractions from my phone that I deleted my gmail, and thereby all my calendar events disappeared with it. Another person waiting while I was ignorant to the event taking place.

It has given me a jolt in understanding the reality of how I live my life expectant for other people or other things (like phones!) to remind me where to be, and being so distracted by other things to be present as to the time itself.

So in an effort to be less Spinning Jenny (reference here What a Spinning Jenny Actually Is

Check out our tips for managing time, or more so being present and being organised!

1. A good old fashioned diary notebook

2. Calendly - a godsend (once you don't link it to a gmail account you've removed from your phone!) - https://calendly.com/

3. A PA - While I would dearly love to have the wonderful Jemma there to nudge me along every minute of the day, there are limits for which I'm sure she is glad we have 7 hours difference in our timezones. For those who haven't yet met the fabulous Virtual Assistant and Social Media Co-ordinator for Living Legacy, Jemma, we will be introducing her to you all next month so watch this space.

4. Meditation to become present and focused - shout out to the fabulous Fiona Brennan who just launched her amazing book and audios - Sleep Well - available at most online stores, and in Ireland through most bookstores. More information available at The Positive Habit

All the above is really my attempt to recognise the concept about time management being the myth we often feel we are forever trying to understand. Many organisations put their staff on time management courses, most of know we procrastinate, and even more of us are over reliant on devices keeping us in check.

Yet time is the same for us all, it is in how we manage our actions that ensures we can enjoy the freedom of space in our day for doing what we want, either for ourselves, or with the people we enjoy, to living our daily life fulfilled.
